Hey guys, welcome Back 2 the Peach Pit! Our next episode is up, and even though it’s the end of august, we enjoyed talking about The Walsh Family Christmas episode! This episode was a little longer than most 90210 episodes tend to be, since it was their Christmas special. Clocking it at one hour and eight minutes, there was a whole lot packed into this episode! We get to see Brenda at her new job, some fun Christmas shenanigans with Brandon and the other Walshes, and overall just a bunch of Christmas fun! For most of the episode, Steve is still in New Mexico trying to find his birth mother, and while he does find his Real Mom by the end of the episode, in NM, he finds something unexpected but extremely welcome for Steve. On top of all of this happening, we get to meet the actual REAL Santa Claus, and he helps the group learn about the “magic” of Christmas. This episode was focused mostly on Steve, and all the things he was going through this week. An old childhood bully returning to the scene can mess with anybody! But he ends up suspended, fighting with his mom, and ultimately he ends up leaving to go on a journey of self-discovery in New Mexico, which he finally finds out is where his birth mother is from. He wants to find his “real” parents, and he seems to hope that finding them will fill some missing piece he’s feeling like he has inside. Another journey this week was for Donna and David, who keep tiptoeing around these feelings they both seem to have for each other. Donna continuously protests whenever Kelly or Brenda tries to tease her about these feelings, but by the end of this episode we see some shocking and exciting progress to the flirtations of David and Donna at the winter dance. This episode tied up a lot of loose ends, and left a lot for the next episode to fill in. We hope you guys enjoyed this episode as much as we did, so let us know! Did Steve make the right choice? This week’s episode brought us quite a bit of entertaining character moments, both good ones and bad ones, and plenty of funny ones as well! Tune into the podcast to catch all of the times that we start dying of laughter during this episode! Emily invites the gang to a party. Specifically, to a seedy underground club that changes its location every week. We find out after they arrive at this party that there are often drugs partaken at this club, which Emily doesn’t seem surprised or upset by. In fact, she ends up deciding (despite his protests) that Brandon is going to try the drug U4EA with her. She’s apparently done it in the past, as we later learn, but Brandon is brought along for the ride without his consent. He’s upset by this at first, but before he can really get mad, he’s already under the influence and can’t fight back about it. By the end of the episode, when he’s come out from the fog, he is able to fully express himself again, and he makes his opinion on this situation clear to Emily. Unfortunately, yet again, poor Brandon’s car does not make it out of all of this unscathed, and after leaving it at the club overnight, it ends up destroyed as you can see in the picture above. Brandon is pretty upset about it, but there’s nothing to be done now except move forward. David was our clear comic relief this week. With all of the craziness going on between Brandon and Emily, and the others at the party having their own crazy experiences, we get to see David completely sloshed for the first time on screen. It’s hilarious, and at one point he grabs Brandon’s chest while dramatically asking if Brandon likes him (Pictured below.) He’s a crazy dancer, and wears Donna and Kelly out on the dance floor. This comedic relief was much needed, with everything else going on, so it was nice to see somebody in the gang being silly like this, despite everything. Steve and Andrea spend most of the episode simply TRYING to find the place they needed to go. A homemade map that got coffee on it, their skewed sense of where they’re going, an egg, and their own arguments keep them from seeing most of what is going on this episode. But through this, we also get to see yet another instance of Steve being a really great friend to Andrea, and giving her a much needed pep talk regarding her continuing feelings for Brandon. Steve is super encouraging, and makes it clear that he is supporting Andrea in pursuing something with these feelings. This was a lot of episode to unpack, and obviously we couldn’t fit everything into the blog here, so go check out our podcast to hear everything that we touched on! We’ve been offline for a while, life kinda got crazy busy for a minute there, but we’re back and excited to jump right into things! This week we were discussing The Next Fifty Years, and despite the heavier emotional tone, we still found lots to talk about and enjoy with this one!
So, for those who have watched this episode before, you know how intense this one is. For those of you who don’t know, in this episode we deal very directly with the topics of suicide, grief, and growing apart from friends. At his own 16th birthday party, Scott accidentally shoots himself with a pistol he found in his dad’s desk drawer. While it wasn’t intentional suicide, it was a death cause by some careless actions on Scott’s part. This episode also serves as a bit of a PSA on gun safety, but this incident happens pretty early on, so much of the episode is focused on David and how he ends up dealing with his grief. We’ve seen the state of David and Scott’s friendship in more recent episodes that we’ve covered. They hardly hang out anymore, and when they are on screen at the same time, David is almost standoffish to Scott. This probably made the death of Scott that much more difficult for David, not only because he had to witness it happen, but also because he feels guilty for the point that their friendship got to. He has a hard time figuring out how to deal with his combination of grief and guilt, but by the end of the episode he seems to have found a stepping stone to move towards healing, and the gang are fully ready to be there for him as they all move forward together! This was definitely an entertaining episode to discuss, so we hope you guys enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed talking about it! This week was super fun, and the episode had a lot of fun moments that we enjoyed discussing on the podcast. In the episode, we meet Bobby Walsh, Brenda and Brandon’s cousin, and just before his arrival in LA, Brenda finally passes her drivers test! Bobby seems to be a very beloved member of her family to both of the twins. Brenda is extremely protective of him before he ever appeared on screen, and Brandon seems to look up to him. Bobby is a paraplegic, and has been in a wheelchair since an accident three years ago. We learn later in the episode that Brandon was actually there when it happened, and the boys have a heart to heart towards the end that was extremely touching for anyone who grew up close with their cousins. Brenda is afraid to get behind the wheel for most of the episode, despite finally having passed and gotten her license. Brandon even tried offering to let her drive his Mustang at one point! Rebecca was appalled when Brenda still refused to drive the beautiful car, but when she does finally suck it up and get behind the wheel, it’s one of the funniest scenes in the episode! There was also a small, but still exciting development about a low key ship in the friend group, one that was very subtly hinted at back in the summer time, but now seems to be beginning to make steps towards being a reality! I (Rebecca) dropped the ball coming off of vacation. Whoops!! On to this week’s episode! This was a blast of an episode and we’re so excited to share it with you! We finally get to meet Dylan’s mother in this episode, and she is both nothing and everything that we expected her to be. She’s just as “odd” and hippie-like as Dylan explained her to be, but yet she’s more than that. As the episode goes on, we begin understanding a little more about both Dylan and his mother, Iris. Dylan is in a pretty bad spot for a good chunk of the episode, but with the help of his loved ones around him he can find his way back again. He spends a lot of the episode indulging in old vices, and luckily he has a pair of Walsh kids who aren’t going to let him spiral too far. Through this episode, we also get some lighthearted fun with Donna and Steve. Donna learns in a project for economics class that she has a knack for the stock market. So she and Steve invest for real and begin making money! We see Donna start standing up for herself, and by the end even Steve and Kelly have to respect how she can stand on her own! Donna got super triggered every time she was called stupid or a dumb blonde. She proved them all wrong! GO DONNA!!!!!! Hey guys, welcome Back 2 the Peach Pit! This week was a fun one to talk about, the new school year bringing both new students to mix things up, and old friends who may not agree on everything all the time anymore.
Our newest student at West Beverly that we meet is Emily Valentine, a girl who transfers to the school and immediately starts shaking things up in our little friend group. She meets Dylan on day one, and decides to go on a date with him. She meets Brandon later and also agrees to go on a date with him. While we weren't sure about this behavior and disapproved of her doing this, Brenda handles it in a very unkind way. Her jealousy takes over her interactions with Emily, and she ends up making her feel extremely unwelcome for much of the episode. Brenda does end up being the bigger person, and Emily seems to fit herself more easily into the group after this. We'll see as the season continues how Emily Valentine truly changes things for our little pack of friends. One of the best things about this plot line was some fun drama between Dylan and Brenda, so I hope you'll check out the podcast to see what we had to say on that topic! Scott and David were the central characters for plot line B. Scott returns from Oklahoma, and he and David struggle to pick up their friendship where they left off, the summer having changed them both. Scott brings back fireworks and a rifle he shows off to his friend, much to David's horror. Scott's seeming lack of concern on the subject makes things even more awkward for the two boys, and the episode leaves them off on a slightly unsure note. We're not exactly sure yet how Scott will continue to change or how his rifle may come back into play, but we'll have to wait until a future episode to figure that one out! This was a really fun episode to talk about! Despite some distaste or uncertainty on some of the character decisions, we both had a blast and really enjoyed talking about Wildfire. This was quite the fun episode to talk about, because we finally get to see the dynamics of the full group of teenagers on screen together! We didn't end up splitting up the plots of this episode, everything is explained all in one plot!
The gang of teenagers head out to Yosemite National Park for a weekend camping trip to celebrate the end of summer together. Dylan originally was planning to spend the weekend with his mom, freshly moved back from Hawaii, but she ditches their plans for some sort of spiritual retreat instead. Last minute and feeling especially low emotionally, Dylan joins the group in the van. Unfortunately, in her haste to make room for Dylan's stuff in the Walsh duffle bag, Brenda ends up forgetting Brandon's hiking shoes. This wouldn't have been that big of an issue, except it begins pouring almost as soon as they get into the park. So they pull into a campground, which only has a singular leaky cabin available. They're all pretty grumpy about the situation, yet the newlywed couple in the cabin next door doesn't seem bothered by the downpour. Eventually, even their mood changes and the couple ends up in our group's cabin for some impromptu group therapy. This episode had many things that we really enjoyed, including some great friendship building moments between Brandon and Dylan, some hilarious shenanigans from Steve, David, and Donna, and some great discussions about life and love with all of our teens. We weren’t huge fans of one of the main storylines, but despite that we still enjoyed this episode! Plot A was all about Brenda, Andrea, and the dramatics that occur with them. They’re reaching the end of their acting class, and the girls are paired up for their final scene project. They’re both working hard to do their best, but they’re also working to try and impress their teacher, Mr. Suiter. Soon that desire to impress turns in the direction of romance, and they start to fight over the attention of “Call me Chris” Mr. Suiter. We felt a little icky about this plot line, but it ended up bringing the girls even closer together, so in the end it wasn’t all that bad for either of them! Story B was about Brandon, and the major purchase of his beloved ‘65 yellow Mustang. It’s a bit of an ordeal with Jim attempting to offer help at first, and when Brandon refuses the help and tries it on his own, and shenanigans come about that make this purchase a little more complicated. The car has problems, and Brandon is extremely disappointed that he’s already going to have to put even more money into the car. It all ends positively, but you’ll have to listen to the episode to see for yourself exactly how that plays out! This was a blast to talk about, despite the discomfort with Plot A and the girls. It’s time to talk about Play It Again, David! We had a blast with this one, with Kelly having some great opportunities for growth, and Brandon learning to look at a different perspective through the life of a boy named Felix. Kelly’s mother Jackie begins dating again, and Kelly disapproves for multiple reasons. One of them is that her doctor told her she should try to stay single for a while with her recovery, and the bigger reason being that Jackie’s newest beau is none other than David’s father, Mel. The two parents hit it off, and seem very happy getting to know each other. Kelly attempts to sabotage the relationship on a group outing with the new couple and both of their children, though she realizes her mistake and fixes the situation to the best of her abilities. We really saw a new side of Kelly that I think even she herself didn’t realize she had inside her, and you’ll really enjoy getting to see how she changes by the end of this episode. When Andrea asks Brandon to act as a big brother for a kid at the Valley Youth Center. He’s hesitant at first, but agrees and starts getting to know Felix. He’s a stubborn kid at first, giving Brandon all kinds of trouble. But he has a quick turnaround for some reason, and Brandon gets attached to Felix. Unfortunately, he soon finds out a dark secret about Felix’s mom, and he is faced with a decision: does he confront her directly, or go straight to some sort of authority who would remove Felix from the home? This episode was a lot of fun, and we really got to see some of our characters in a different light. What did you think of this one? Did you like it as much as we did? Let us know!
